The Closely-Groomed Mustache

The expression on his face indicates to me that he is distressed at having such a mustache and wishing it could be fuller. Maybe his father is a barelipped tyrant and is threatening disinheritanceness.

His father is part of the problem. He owns a haberdashery. Unfortunately, the father hired Mordecai, an aloof and half-blind cousin, to be the tailor of his enterprise. As you can see from the poor chap seated, he's made a suit much too big! Look at the man's small head compared to the ballooning lapeled coat!

i feel that he is ashamed to be seen before his moustache starter-kit had fully matured.

The gentleman's slightly raised right eyebrow combined with the darkly oblique distant gaze suggests, with grim foreboding, that his moustache will have its revenge - and soon.

Barelipped tyrants be warned.
