The Annals of Mustache Villainy

Regular readers of this poor journal will be familiar with my quirks and prejudices. I defend the mustache in all forms and the fine men and women who wear them from all assaults. But there is villainy in the mustache family:

Presented here is true villain from mustache history, John Wilkes Booth, murderer of the 16th President if these United States, Abraham Lincoln.

This heretofore unknown image of the assassin was uncovered by the keen eye of Josh Hager while working at Rare Book, Manuscript, and Special Collections Library at Duke University. Read his entire adventure at the RBMSCL blog, The Devil's Tale.

Brought to my attention by the ever faithful Amy McDonald.

It is fitting that it would be Duke connected to this latest villainous discovery.....shaking fist of Wildcat fury!

The moustache that killed the hat. Not being from America one has a different perspective: No man could stand in the way of a Moustache as magnificent as this, not even a president. I think many other moustaches would have been required to catch and kill this one. Moustache gone wild!

Come, come. This fellow is much older than that twenty-six year-old murderous thespian.

He looks no more like Wilkes Booth than I.

Congratulations on being Blog of Note. My name's Christopher Bassoo and I have been looking into social media, web applications, franchise sales, Google analytic, prevention of fraud and fraudulent emails, etc. Anyway, in my search I came across your blog, and it was a much needed laugh. Also, I quite enjoy your layout -- it goes perfectly with the atmosphere of 19th century mustaches. Very impressive blog, I'll most definitely return to see who the next mustache star is. :D

Again, congrats on being blog of note. Warm regards.

To me these mustaches are like the ball caps the guys wear today--some sports team, a tractor dealership, NASCAR, and other symbols that celebrate mediocrity--but the mustache had a lot more class!

Cheers! Bruce

Definitely sharing this blog with others, also trying to coax my brother into choosing a mustache to grow that looks like one on your page.
Is General Custer soon to come in the Annals of Mustach Villainy?

Will definitely share this blog with other facial hair fans! Trying to convince my brother to try out a style pictured on your blog.

Have you ever noticed how the size of the mustache is inversely correlated to the evilness of the person under it?

Here is the scientific proof:

Hitler = small mustache = very evil

Groucho Marx = big mustache = not so evil

Conclusion: evil stunts mustache growth.

Dear Mustaches of the Nineteenth Century,

WOW! Really interesting. I wish everyone had mustaches this FANTASTIC! I have to admit the 19th century was full of these masculine mustaches. Keep writing GREAT stories, because, your a GREAT writer. Check out my blog at www.sierraschirp.blogspot.com! I write about reviews [I may write about your blog!] recipes, personal thoughts, and more!

A fine and well-documented sampling indeed! I do have one question: where are your portraits of the femme mustache? Rather like the femmullet I stumbled upon this blog hoping also to view the fantastic facial hair artistry of the gentler sex.

I don't mean to offend, but was never too fond of facial hair. That is, of course, until I stumbled upon this little slice of heaven. I especially enjoy your witty, eloquently worded commentary on each one!
