Adversus Barba

Take, for example, this fine chap. Covered by a scruffy beard, there would be no way to admire the rugged fissure in his chin formed from the incomplete fusion of the left and right halves of the jaw. For the sake of a few chin whiskers, the cleft would be lost.

wow, that's a cleft to make even harrison ford jealous. to cover it with a beard would be a sad thing indeed.

He is a proud man, no, not boastful, like he had just won the hand of the town beauty at the barn dance a fortnight prior, no, just a man who enjoys his life and his facial hair.

Hi there! I love your site :) I've been researching some old photos myself & had very recently noted in my research notebook, the whiskers of Sultan Abdul Hamid of Kedah... my research subject. Here's a link to the collection where he appears:

Your blog is just delightful and really made my day. But for the curse of womanhood and living mustacheless! I wish there were a profile one could peruse..or maybe I just couldn't find it or something.

This blog cracks me up, I can't believe there is a mustache blog! Love the pictures : )

Your dee-lightful compendium reminds me a bit of this article, "The Haircut of Creativity."

Though perhaps not directly related to mustaches, I would like to put forth my own theory that communist leanings are directly proportional with the size and lustre of one's beard. Marx and Engels are fine examples of this bewhiskered phenomenon (see also, "Why Santa Claus is a Communist" and "Is Friedrich Engels Santa Claus?").

I bow to your unflinching representation of superior facial hair, and daily bemoan that cruel fate that robbed me of the chance to emulate it.
