The Blonde Mustache



Very few blond men lived in America before 1913, so this a rare image indeed.

Even rarer is a man with a tie like that looking so melancholic. It's because he's consumptive, but still.

Perhaps the poor blighter's wistful, saddened gaze is the product of a dawning realisation, that he is possibly alone in a dark-haired world.

This inequality would also explain his incomplete haircut; one can imagine a local barber, baffled by the realities of cutting and styling a mop of yellow hair, "throwing in the towel" half the way through. (Although I'll wager he demanded to be paid in full, the rake.)
